【GCT】Vol.23 Jenice先生の早口言葉

Hello! I am Jenice from Singapore.
Singapore is a multiracial country.

It has four official languages which are

1. English(英語)

2. Chinese(中国語)

3. Malay(マレー語)

4. Tamil(タミル語)

I would like to introduce you some tongue twisters in these languages.

Does everyone know what tongue twisters are?

They are phrases which have similar sounding words in a repetitive sequence.

They are difficult to recite and can be used as a spoken word game.

In other words, it is what you call “hayakuchi kotoba(早口言葉)” in Japanese.

So come on everyone!

Let’s try to say them.

See how quick you can recite each tongue-twister and how twisted your lips may get!

Tongue twister in English(英語)

# I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

# A big black bug bit a big black dog on his big black nose.

# Can you can a can as a canner can can a can?

# Rory the warrior and Roger the worrier were reared wrongly in a rural brewery.

# Thirty-three thirsty, thundering thoroughbreds thumped Mr Thurber on Thursday.

Tongue twister in Chinese(中国語)

(chi pu/poo tao bu/boo tu/too pu tao pi/pee, bu chi pu tao dao tu pu tao pi)

(Translation = Eat the grapes but don’t spit out the skins, don’t eat the grapes but spit out the skins)

Tongue twister in Malay(マレー語)

Pokok kopi, pokok kopi, pokok kopi

(Translation = Coffee tree, coffee tree, coffee tree)

Tongue twister in Tamil(タミル語)

Kokku netta kokku, netta kokku itta mutta katta mutta

Good luck!!
