Opening Ceremony

Today we had the opening ceremony for the new school year! The cub, kitten, and puppy students were joined by their families to celebrate the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year. The cub and kitten students introduced themselves on stage and sang the “Welcome to YGK” song for the new puppy students. Then, the puppy students were introduced and one by one got on stage with their family members. They all received flowers and pictures were taken. The principal lead us in prayer and said some closing remarks, sharing his hopes for the new school year. All of us who work at YGK are looking forward to starting classes with our new students. Let’s have a great year full of academic exploration in an environment that accepts, respects and nurtures every child’s individuality!

Spring School Day 4

Today was our last day of spring school. We had a really fun last day at earth plaza. We took a train there and had fun counting down the 8 stops until we got there. Then when we got there we played in a big indoor play area. Which had fun things to play with such as a bouncy castle, a climbing frame, a mirror house, and a dark room that they called “the haunted house.” After we had a lot of fun in there we had our lunch where we sat on 2 long tables together. Then we went into a international culture room which had lots of things to see from different cultures such as houses, food, transportation, clothes, and instruments. We played in here on the 2 floors where it was fun to play and we could learn a lot from the different cultures too. Then we took a train back to YMCA where they finished up our last day of spring school.

We hope you all had a lot of fun this week and we will see you in April or if your finishing YGK good luck in your new schools!

Spring School Day 3

Today was our third day of Spring School and we went to  Nogeyama Zoo. Although many students have been attending since the first day, we were happy that they were still energetic and excited to go to the zoo together! The beautiful weather has even made our day more special!

We took a train and transferred to a bus to get to the zoo. We saw many animals such as Lion, Tiger, Giraffes, Monkeys, Flamingos, and birds. Among all the animals, students especially got so thrilled when they saw the Lion! We tried not to make any loud voices as the sign showed, but we enjoyed seeing us each other getting some goose bumps when the Lion made some moves.

We were also amazed to see a beautiful Peacock and  Flamingos. We loved their pink feathers!  We are surprised to know the height of the Ostrich and enjoyed watching Giraffes taking their lunch time!

Before leaving the zoo, we made a final stop at the Penguin's place. Penguins are one of our students’ favorite animals, so we didn't want to miss them. We enjoyed watching them swim. We even mimicked those interesting sounds they make.

It was such a perfect day for our field trip to the zoo.

We hope this experience has brought our students wonderful memories before welcoming new school year!

YGK Spring School Day 2

It was such a fun and memorable day today. We were able to experience the Sea Bass with our YGK friends and saw the other side of Yokohama from the Sea bass view. It was wonderful!

We had fun having lunch together at Yamashita Park while enjoying the fresh air and nice weather. We were able to play together after the lunch and went straight to Marine Tower where everyone have enjoyed stamping the Marine Tower’s stamp on the paper we got from them.  We were astonished to learn that we can go to its highest floor which is the 30th floor. We were very thankful to have seen Mt. Fuji from there.

Before we went back to school, we had a chance to look at the Marine Tower again from Yamashita Park and were able to use our creativity by sketching it.

It was another amazing Spring school with friends and teachers. We are looking forward to more great adventures with you!

YGK Spring School Day 1

It was a beautiful sunny day and we enjoyed our trip  to Negishi Park.
We looked at the horses and made sure we are quiet in front of the horses and ponies so that they don't get scared.
We played for a long time at the fields. Some students looked for treasures in nature bugs, sticks, leaves, flowers and crystal stones, and some found a stinkbug and made a bug hotel in the crevices of the roots of  big tree. Other students slid down the hills while others played under a big pine tree.
Then we enjoyed our lunch together. After lunch, we did leaf dye on a white cloth using leaves and flowers which we pounded using stones. The children were very amazed that different leaves left different shades of green and the colors of flowers left a bright impression on the whites clothes.
It was a really beautiful day and we are glad that we enjoyed nature at spring time.

Graduation Ceremony

This year’s graduation ceremony was not only a big celebration but also an uplifting event for the whole YGK. It has become a day of giving and receiving encouragements as well as tangible gifts.

We started off with the Kitten children expressing their love to Cub friends through gift and words of affirmation like “You're kind” and “you are jolly!” They also presented a heart-warming farewell song to Cub class.

Cub students, in turn, sang some touching songs and shared more about themselves during their speech. It was a privilege to hear their likes and dreams for the future. Way to go Cubs!

What also made this ceremony extra special was

the inspiring message given by this year’s Cub Parent representative. We learned that the secret to making good friends is to know that even though we are all different, we have some things in common. Let's find that “things” with each other and make 100 true friends!

The ceremony ended with a blast as our principal read a book to the graduating class entitled, おおきくなるっていうことは.  Indeed, to grow is to become inches taller, pounds heavier, years wiser,  and more responsible than ever before. And that is what our Cub class has achieved throughout their stay in YGK!

Once again,  “Congratulations children!” “Congratulations parents and guardians!” “Congratulations teachers!”

We wish we could go on sharing our lives with you indefinitely but we had to say Goodbye………. and See you later!

Fire Station Visit

As part of our theme, community helpers, the Kitten class had an opportunity to visit Yokohama Central Ward's fire Station.

It was a really fun and engaging experience for them.  When we arrived, the children were delighted to see the firemen who welcomed us in front of a big fire truck and an ambulance.  One of them explained about hoses and the tools they use at work.  The children were surprised to see the hidden racks of tools on the side of the truck.

They cheered as the teachers used the fire hydrants which were filled with water for the demonstration.  Then each of them got the chance to sit on driver's seat of the fire truck.

After that, the firefighters showed a demonstration of going down from a 9-meter wall while wearing a mask and an oxygen tank.  The children couldn't help but say that they are very cool.  It was an awesome morning at the fire station.

Culture Day -India-

Thanks to the parent, we really enjoyed learning about India! She explained about its location, food, flag, language, clothes, sports, and landmarks. Many students got so fascinated and asked lots of questions when she introduced a variety of foods! The images made us so hungry! They especially wanted to know more about the Indian bread, called “chapati.”

Also, learning about Indian jewelries made girls even more interested. One asked, “What's made of?” Taj Mahal was also an eye catching place for students.

In the end of the presentation, we learned how to say “hello” and “thank you” in Hindi.

Shukriya (means “thank you” in Hindi) to the parent for her time and contribution for our Culture Day! The presentation made our learning even more special!

Graduation Excursion

On Friday, 18th of January, the YGK Cubs together with their Moms and Teachers had a Graduation Excursion to Le Soleil. We had an opportunity to spend time together and get to know a little bit more about each other before Graduation day. It was a very nice and sunny day. We saw and took pictures of beautiful flowers with Mt. Fuji in the background. It was also a great experience for the students to decorate their own bread with their Moms and Teachers. We were able to use our creative ideas to make our bread beautifully decorated while having fun with everyone. We realized simple dough can transform into cute and delicious bread. After that, we ate lunch together and the students were so happy as they finally enjoyed playing at the Le Soleil’s playground. It was a very memorable experience especially for the Cub students. They may not be classmates after they graduate but after today's successful experience with friends and Moms we have strengthen their friendships by giving them an opportunity to enjoy each other’s company one more time.

Police Headquarters Visit

On Tuesday, January 8th, the YGK Cubs and their teachers visited the Police Headquarters. It was a remarkable experience for them to enter the building and meet the dedicated police officers working inside. They were able to see a model of the LED traffic lights and also enjoy the beautiful scenery from the 20th floor of the building. They could also enter a special room to see directly where the police officers receive the phone calls from people who need help. They learned the steps on how calls are processed through a big image shown on a big screen. They could have fun playing in a room where they could find interactive games, a police motorbike model, etc. It was an amazing day to meet wonderful police officers.
