YMCA Global Kindergarten is an English Immersion Kindergarten run by Yokoama YMCA which has a 130-year history.
Our aim is to focus on nurturing the child`s mental and physical development thereby creating a healthier and happier environment enriched in love. YGK encourages children to become more independent by building a framework of self-confidence which they will be able to take with them even after leaving YGK.

One day, in the nature/science area, one of our friends was using the magnifying glasses, which are different from the other classes.

He was very amazed with how big and different things looked under the glasses. Soon, he started exploring. He tried looking many different things through the glass; pencils, scissors,soil,flowers; everything looks different when looked through them!! Next, he tried stacking multiple glasses in many different ways to find out what difference it makes . Every time he discovered something new, he called out his friends and teachers to share his observations.

ある日、サイエンスネイチャーエリアで年長クラスのAさん。置いてあった虫眼鏡に目がとまりました。これまでに使ったことのある虫眼鏡とは違う形です。虫眼鏡を手に教室の探索が始まりました。鉛筆、ハサミ、土、花、、、。レンズを通すと身近なものもいつもと全く違って見えます。

しばらくすると、今度はいくつかの虫眼鏡を積み重ねたり、組み合わせたり。

こうしたらどう見えるかな。次はどうかな。みんな見て！ほら、違うみえかたになったよ！

先日、YMCA Global Kindergartenの2023年度卒園式が終わりました。

この世に生を受けてここで互いに出会ったことは、奇跡の連続であることを思います。

園で共に過ごした時間には、本当に沢山のことがあったね。
おうちの方から離れるのが不安で泣いた日、新しい教室に少し不安になった日、楽しい活動に目を輝かせた日、皆で大笑いした時間、仲違いして涙した日、仲直りしてほっとした瞬間、思い通りにいかなくて葛藤したこと、不安や緊張を乗り越えて感じた自信、、、

様々な時を共有して、一人ひとりが人として、そして大切な仲間として、成長しました。
これから広い世界へと歩を進める皆。大きな喜びに出会うこともあるでしょう。時に、不安に感じることや悲しいことにも出会うでしょう。
でも、そんな時、忘れないで。あなたの隣には、助けてくれる誰かが必ずいること。喜びを分かち合える大切な人がいること。あなたを丸ごと愛してくれる人がいること。そして、あなたはかけがえのない大切な存在であること。
困ったら助けを求めることを恐れないで。そして、誰かが困っていたらそっと手を差し伸べてあげられる、そのままのあなたでいてください。私たちは小さな存在だけれども、皆の力が集まれば大きな潮流になることを信じているから。
物質的な距離は離れるけれど、私たちはいつもあなた達一人ひとりの味方であり続けます。嬉しいとき、寂しくなった時、ワクワクした時、不安に感じる時、何でもない時、いつでも戻っておいで。ここはあなた達の第二の家庭だから。そしてエネルギーを蓄えて、また大きく羽ばたいて自分の信じる道を進めばいいんだよ。
皆のゆく手にいつも豊かな愛情と喜びとがありますように、いつも祈っています。

最後になりましたが、今年も有志の在園児保護者の皆様による手作りの見事な装飾が、華やかに美しく会場であるチャペルホールを彩り、卒園児のご家族による一人ひとりのこどもたちの写真コラージュとクラスで作成した子どもたちの等身大の自画像が、子どもたちの健やかな成長の証となり、この記念すべき日を一層心に残るものにしてくれました。
愛情深く見守り、支え続けてくださっている保護者の皆様に、心からの感謝と敬意を送ります。

“What can we make and play today!!” We could hear some Cub friends discussing among themselves; “water slide again?” - “Let's add more milk boxes.. make it longer.. a track for our lego car!” Then our games kept on changing from one idea to another…. From lego cars, we shifted to paper balls, to tissue paper rolls to marbles… It’s so fun when we can choose, make and play our own games!

公園で始まったキャンプごっこ。焚き火をおこすために石や小枝をせっせと集めています。次は、二本の枝を擦り合わせて火起こし。そのうちに、興味は燃料へとうつっていきます。「特別な燃料を作ろう」手に手に花や葉っぱ、木の実を持って集まってきます。石ですり潰して、燃料になった！
The play started as a camping game, where they were seen collecting stones and sticks to make a fire. They rubbed two sticks together to start a spark… soon their game shifted to fire and fuel!! “Let’s make our own fuel" …Different friends collected flowers, leaves and seeds; grinding them between two stones, they imagined creating their own fuel for the fire.

The last month of this school year has come.
We can hear the children singing songs for the new beginning, and the Puppy and Kitten classes’ parents are also already preparing to send off the graduating class. On various occasions, I encounter the warm gaze of parents and teachers watching over every child as if he or she were their own child. I am deeply reminded once again that such warmth and abundance of love is the source of YGK children's loving humanity and solid sense of self-esteem.
I am filled with sadness whenever I think of the separation that will soon come. But more than that, I feel great joy at the overflowing energy of life of the children who are living in the "now" and growing stronger and more flexible day-by-day, and I am grateful for the blessing of these precious encounters.
I pray that all of their days will be bright and full of hope, that when they face difficulties, they will have the courage to ask for help when they need it, and likewise to give the compassion when others are the ones in need, and that we, adults, will have the courage and determination to fulfill our responsibility.
We are coming to a fork in the road. We may have fewer chances to see some of our dear friends. But I pray that each child, who was born with shining personalities and talents, will cherish their excellence in what they can do, and grow up to live an enriched life, and that the children in front of us now and the children we will meet in the future will say, "I am glad that I was born! Life is wonderful!” With deep affection and heartfelt trust, we hope to continue to watch over and support them. We, too, will keep going, even if it is a small step or a detour at times.
Last but not the least, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to all of the parents for their trust, their support, and their guide at all times.

During the phonics class, the K2 class's friends were asked to write the names and draw pictures of their best friends. While most of them eagerly began, one child appeared lost in thought. When asked if she needed help, she said No. After some time, with a burst of joy, she told the name of her best friend, 'it is A-san!!' and she proceeded to create a lovely picture of her dear friend who had left our school several months ago.
It was heartwarming to see that she still remembered her best friend !!

ある日のフォニッスクの時間、ベストフレンドの名前と顔を書こうというテーマが出されました。張り切ってすぐに取りかかり始めた仲間の中に、一人思案にくれた様子の子。手助けが必要そうか先生が尋ねると大丈夫、必要ないとの返事。しばらくすると、「そうだ！Aさんだ！」と喜びが抑えきれない弾けるような声で言うと、すぐに大好きなお友だちの顔を書き始めました。数ヶ月前にYGKから旅立ったAさん。毎日会えなくなっても、変わらずいつだって大好きな大切なお友だちなのです。

Risshun, the first day of spring, has passed. Small blossoms have begun to appear on the plum trees, and spring flowers and grasses have gradually begun to appear on the ground. We are very happy that this beautiful season has come again this year.
I often feel the children's growth in such unexpected moments as when they greet each other in the morning, when they change the way they play, and when they attend their morning meeting more actively and more responsively. Every day I see how each child is trying to build a stronger bond with his or her peers. Children in toddler years become aware of the presence of their friends and, step by step, begin to share places and play with their friends. As they become more assertive, they experience fights and tears when they experience disagreement. They experience how they can cooperate with each other to develop richer play over time. The rich and varied experiences they have with their precious friends nurture each child’s flexible social skills and lead to the development of a sense of self-respect as the core of their hearts.
We are all living beings kept alive in the cycle of life. And we humans are social creatures. We can only shine brighter when we are sharpened by others. Each trial is given to us so we can overcome it, which is also a blessing. We should be grateful for experiences like this and cherish each and every day of the month.
February 28th is Pink Shirt Day. In support of the anti-bullying campaign that began in Canada, I pray that everyone will be loved as an irreplaceable individual, and that the world will come to a place where the dignity and life of each individual is valued.

We had a walk in the park and saw an unusual bird resting near the pond. The children were curious, asking, "Hello! How are you? Are you cold? Are you talking with the ducks? What are you talking about?"

It was a happy encounter on a cold winter day.

We had a sticky rice pounding day the ptjer day. The children were thrilled when they saw the big mortar in the classroom. One friend confidently said, "I am very strong, so I can pound mochi sticky rice very hard!" Others joined in, saying, "Me, too!" Everyone had a chance to pound mochi, and after feeling its sticky texture, some friends didn't want to wash it off their hands.

先日、お餅つきを行いました。
教室に置かれた大きな臼と大きな杵に、歓声が上がりました。一人のお友だちが自信ありげにこう言いました。「ぼくは力持ちだから力いっぱいお餅をつけるよ。」すると、周りのお友だちも、口々に「僕も！」「私も！」と声を上げました。ほかほかと湯気の上がる餅米を、皆で順番にペッタン、ペッタンとつきました。
つきあがったお餅を触ってみよう。ぺたぺただね。手についた感触もお餅つきの醍醐味だね。

12月25日（月）と26日（火）の2日間で、 “Active Learners（アクティブラーナーズ）” という小学生向けの「英語で探究する」冬季特別プログラムを実施しました。
今回、英語幼児園・YMCA Global Kindergartenの卒園児である小学生3年生から6年生が5名、参加してくれました。
今回は、「ピタゴラスイッチを作ろう」というテーマで活動しました。
「教室にある玩具やリサイクル用品を使って、5人で協力をして一つのコースを作ること」をゴールとして設定しました。
まず、アイスブレーキングゲームで緊張をほぐしたら、どんなコースを作りたいかを各自で考える時間を持ちました。自分の頭の中のイメージに従って設計図を作り、みんなの前でプレゼンテーションしました。それから、みんなの案を一つにしていきます。誰の案を何番目にするか相談しながら決めました。
二日目には、実際のコースの組み立てが始まりました。自分たちのイメージを正確に再現しようと丁寧に取り組む姿が見られました。なかなか思うように進まず、「昨日から始めておいたらよかった！」なんて声も聞こえてきました。丁寧に並べたドミノがふとした拍子に倒れてしまって、焦ってみんなで直したり。おうちの方に見ていただこうと二日目の解散前にお招きをしていましたが、コースを完成させるのに予定より時間がかかって、試運転なしのぶっつけ本番の一回勝負になりました。そんな失敗や反省も含めて、大成功でした！皆の独創性、チームワーク、諦めない力、大きな笑顔、全てに感動しました。
また皆で面白いことしよう。次回は来年の夏かな？今回は会えなかった皆も次回会えるのを楽しみにしています！
