will be a lifetime treasure

Perfect Friday at Negishi Park

It was such a perfect Friday for Kitten students to go to Negishi Park for our field trip. We got so excited because we had beautiful fall weather from the start. We took a bus and headed to the park. Once we arrived at the park, we found an open grass area to sit down and had a story time. The story was about acorns that had holes and worms were coming out from the holes. When students were seriously listening to the story, a dog stopped by and joined our story time!

After the story time, we explored in nature. Some were busy looking for acorns and some enjoyed throwing leaves like a snow fight. Since we brought a stethoscope, students checked the sounds coming from the trees. After a long time of exploring, we enjoyed our lunch time. In the afternoon, students were busy playing a game of tag. It was so much fun running in a huge open space! Before going back to school, students had fun moments playing with on the “bouncy slide” on the grass hill. We also found a perfect spot to pick up some acorns on the way back to school! It was such a fun day. We definitely want to come back to the park again soon!

Sports Day is Over!

We may have mentioned this a hundred times but we will say it again. Thank you everyone, parents, graduates, families, and children, for your cooperation last Sports Day! We had so much fun!

Here's the highlight of this year's Sports Day:

Our Joey kids were shining brightly as they showed off their cute dance moves to the beat of the songs, Twinkle, twinkle little star and Ebikanix!

It seems like new little pop stars group is rising in YGK after Puppy kids presented their cheer dance moves to the song, "Banana Chacha."

The Kitten class parachute performance just brought us goose bumps and jaw-dropping feeling while watching those wavelike movements and incredible shapes like mountains, sun and tent!

Our big brothers and sisters from Cub class never fail to amaze us with their Gymnastics performance showing how flexible and strong they are as well as how quick but smooth their movements are.

And of course, YGK parents, indeed, can have fun and be silly too! All the children looked so proud to watch them relaying message through gestures that turned out to be so funny!

Oh what an awesome day!

Cub class went to the Negishi Forest Park

On Wednesday, the 23rd, Cub class was able to take a field trip to Negishi Park! We were so lucky to enjoy such a beautiful, warm day. The students listened to a book about holes in acorns and later on in the day, we actually found one! We were able to observe the little insect popping it’s head out of the hole. The kids were in awe! At one point, a crow even wanted to join in on our fun and got into one of the teacher’s backpacks. What a funny moment that was! The students also had a stethoscope that we used to listen to the trees. Some of them were able to hear, a vibration-like sound inside of the trees, which they found very interesting. The kids loved being outside, running around, finding acorns, listening to the sounds around them, playing, and exploring! It was a fun-packed day and we were so happy to share such a wonderful day together!

Story Time at the Park

Now we are in autumn the air is not as hot anymore so we can enjoy the fresh air more.
Today we decided to have a story time in the park.
We read "It Looked Like Spilled Milk." It is about the cloud shapes that look like things.
After the story we asked the Puppies what they thought the clouds looked like.
Some example of what they said were "shark", "dinosaur", "bird", " shrimp" and more.
They seemed to enjoy finding shapes in the sky.

Taking Care of Our Earth

As our theme for this month is about "Taking Care of Our Environment", we introduced the Cubs to the 5 R's; Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot. Today we did a recycle craft using PET bottles. We made small treasure boxes with abstract patterns using autumn colors; red, orange and yellow. The Cubs loved to decorate their treasure boxes with beads and stars, and they all turned out amazing!

Save Our Earth

On Wednesday, the Cub students started their theme about learning how and why it’s important to take care of our environment. We started our theme by talking about trash and how some trash and oil will end up in the ocean. We set up a tray with some sea creature toys, trash and an “oil spill” using olive oil and black paint. They found it interesting and sad to see and experience how some of our ocean is because of the negative effects of trash.

Cub's First Sleepover

On September 5th and 6th, Cub class was able to travel to a YMCA camp near Mt. Fuji for a sleepover! The first day that we got there, we went to a beautiful farm and we were able to milk a cow, feed llamas and goats, and play on a fun playground! They loved interacting with all of the animals and exploring the farm. In the afternoon, the children prepared their own futon with the help of the teachers and their partner. It was great to see how proud they were to set up their beds on their own! We had a delicious dinner at night, took a bath, and read two stories before bed. We woke up early the next day at 5:30am to a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji! The kids were all in awe. After breakfast, we went on a treasure hunt and they were able to find cookies l-looking rocks, different colored leaves, and beautiful wild flowers. After lunch, we said goodbye to the amazing view of Mt. Fuji and the welcoming staff at the YMCA camp and headed back to Yokohama on the shinkansen! Thank you Cub class for a great trip and sleepover!

Tie Dye

YGK summer school is not complete without making Tie-dye shirts. Oh the kids looked so proud of their work! It was the brightest day ever!

Pop Idol Party

YGK Pop idol was a big hit! It was not only because of their fancy clothes with matching handmade bow tie and ribbon, but also because of their fantastic "banana chacha" moves with overflowing cuteness!
