Cub Class: Please bring your stationery

Dear Cub parents,

In the cub class, children have writing activities often.

They also learn how to manage their belongings properly to be ready to go to elementary school.

So, we would like to ask you to bring your own stationery.

They will keep their own stuff in their cubby and don't bring it home every day,

Thank you for your cooperation.

Daily Report: Thu, June 4

Today is the second day!

Children could unpack quite smoothly this morning!

Although there were times that they felt sad missing their moms and dads, they could forget about the sadness once they started playing with their favorite toys.

Feeling sad when moms and dads say goodbye is a healthy reaction to separation and a normal part of their growth.  It may take some time for them to settle, but we would give our best to provide a comfortable and friendly atmosphere to ease their anxiety.  We will also be patient and wait for them to settle.

We checked attendance and weather in the morning meeting.

Important Notes for Parents

Dear YGK parents,

Thank you for your continued support.

We would like to ask you several things regarding the daily drop-off/pick-up.

①Please wear a mask when you come to school. (Both parents and children)

② Please understand that no more than one person from a family can accompany a child.

③Please use stairs instead of an elevator as much as possible.

④We will not have brushing time after lunch for the time being.

Cups and toothbrushes are not needed.

We thank you for your kind cooperation.

Important Notes for Puppy Parents

Dear Puppy class parents,

Thank you for your cooperation in refraining from coming to school to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 these past few weeks.

However, even though the state of emergency is lifted, we all know that the COVID-19 has not ended yet.  It might still occur sporadically and our area is no exception.  We have to remind ourselves once again to follow the new normal.

As the school reopens next week, we are glad to see you all finally but at the same time we feel responsible even more to keep them safe at school.  We appreciate your continued cooperation and support.

To get ready for the school reopening, we would like to inform you several things.

  • At drop-off/pick-up

As we have sent you an email regarding the drop-off/pick-up,  Drop-off/Pick-up will be done per class at the designated time; Drop-off at 9:40 and pick up at 14:40 for the Puppy class.

We ask you to use stairs instead of an elevator to avoid a congestion.

When you arrive on the 4th floor, please let them change shoes, go to bathroom and wash their hands before drop-off.

We will intake one child at a time.  Please wait until you are called.  Also, please bu sure to wear a mask, keep social distances with each other and wait quietly.

  • School Hour

We will start the normal school schedule straight from Monday, June 1.

We will have lunch together.

As this is their first challenge to have lunch at school, we recommend you to put whatever they like and make it a bit smaller amount than usual.

  • Brushing teeth

Please understand that we will refrain from having a brushing time after lunch.

  • School supplies and uniforms

We would like to ask you to bring home your child's school supplies and uniforms from school.  All the things including crayons, t-shirts, gym shorts, etc. would be put in a paper bag and placed outside the class room on Monday morning. Please check the name and bring it home. We would also like to request you to write your child's name on each of his/her belongings (every single crayon instead of the box only, clothes, underwear, spoons, etc.) As many of them might have similarly looking things, it is necessary to write their name on every item.  Also, please put some patches or cloth-stickers on them so that children can identify their own things easily.

  • Class Orientation

As having been informed to you, we will have a Puppy class's Parents' Orientation on Monday, June 8 on Zoom.

  • Documents

If you haven’t distributed the documents yet, we we ask you to please bring it with you when you come to school.

Please feel free to email us if you have any questions.

Regarding the Joey Class from June

Thank you for your continued support to YMCA Global Kindergarten.

Since the government has lifted the state of emergency, YGK Joey Tue-Thu class shall open school from Tuesday, June 2.  As for the Joey Wed-Fri class, we shall open school as soon as we have enough students.

However, even though the state of emergency is lifted, we all know that the COVID-19 has not ended yet.  It might still occur sporadically and our area is no exception.

As we have informed you previously, Joey class is a place of close contacts.  Although we will take all possible measures to prevent the outbreak of the COVID-19 at YGK, we cannot keep young children apart from each other or make them wear a mask the whole day. Therefore, we cannot completely eliminate the possible surge of COVID-19 infections. We would like to ask you to make your own judgment whether to send your child to school or keep him/her home. For those who choose to stay home, we will still provide appropriate learning videos but not as often as before and there will be no online meetings anymore due to teachers’ time constraints.

Nevertheless, we are hoping for your understanding and cooperation as we create a temporary “new normal” at school to lower the risk of infection.

  • We would like to ask for your cooperation as listed below.

  1. Daily Health Observations

・Please check your child's and your temperature every morning.

・In case you forget to check your temperature, we shall check it at drop-off time.

・If he/she has a fever higher than 37.5 ℃ or 1 ℃ higher than his/her normal temperature or shows any cold symptoms, please be advised that we cannot accept him/her in school on that day.

・If your child has had a fever within 24 hours, he/she should not come to school.

・If you have any cold symptoms, we ask you to refrain from coming to school to drop off/pick up your child.

・Your child can still come to school if you have a certificate issued from a medical institution which clarifies that your child’s respiratory symptoms are not contagious.

・In case your child shows any symptoms or becomes sick at school, please be advised that we shall contact you immediately.  We ask you to come and pick him/her up as soon as possible.  Please be sure to inform us of your most current emergency contact number.

・If your child has any unusual symptoms, we would like to ask for your cooperation to keep him/her at home

  1. At Drop-off/Pick-up Time

・Drop-off/Pick-up will be done per class at the designated time at the classroom door on the 4th floor.

・Drop-off time (9:45)

・Pick-up time(12:15 - Half Day, 14:15 - Full Day)

・Please wear a mask and keep social distances with each other. Also, please refrain from chatting while waiting.

・As for the before-school childcare, the drop-off will be done at the doorway on the 4th floor.  Please ring the bell on the right up of the door upon arrival.

・We check your child’s temperature and physical condition when we take him/her in.

・Please be sure to inform a teacher if he/she has any unusual symptoms.

・To help prevent spreading a contagious disease, we keep the communications between teachers and parents as short as possible.

・We would like to ask for your cooperation in not staying in or around the YMCA after picking up/dropping off your child and leaving immediately.

  1. In case one is diagnosed as positive with COVID-19 or has close contact to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

・In case one of our students, parents and/or teachers are diagnosed as positive with COVID-19, we shall inform parents and related parties immediately.

・If it is a child who is diagnosed as positive or has been in close contact to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19, he/she is not allowed to come to school until he/she gets an official permission to come to school.  If it is a parent or a guardian, he/she is asked to refrain from coming to school to drop off or pick up your child.

・If it is our teacher, we shall ask the public health care center for instructions and have him/her refrain from coming to work.

・In case you are diagnosed as positive or have been in close contact to someone who has been diagnosed with the COVID-19, you are asked to report it to us immediately.

  • Precautions at school

・We shall clean and sanitize the school by wipe cleaning with GESPA, hypochlorous acid solution regularly before intaking the children, before lunch time, and after the children leave the school.

・Purifiers are set and operated in each classroom the whole day.

・We shall ventilate the classroom by operating the ventilating machine the whole day and/or by opening classroom windows once per hour.

・We shall have children wash their hands regularly, at drop-off time, after using the bathroom, after park time, before lunch, at brushing time, etc.

・Teachers and staff shall check temperatures every morning.  If they have fever or any cold symptoms, they are required to stay home.  If a teacher needs to be absent from work, we might have to change the staffing.

・Teachers and staff shall wear a mask in the classroom as a basic rule.

  • Regarding the Class Fee

・For those who have paid the YGK Joey admission fee and monthly fee but have decided not to join the class from June, we shall reimburse this amount.  It will take about 2 months to complete the reimbursement.  The paid class fee can also be applied to the future class fee.  Please inform us which way you would like us to proceed.

  • Staffing

・Due to the number of students in class, we shall have two teachers per day for the time being.  We appreciate your understanding.

 Tuesday - Junko and Hatsumi

 Thursday - Junko and Cora

  • Regarding the full day course in June

・As we couldn’t have the adaptation period in April, we would like to have June as an adaptation period.  Please understand that everyone will leave at 12:15.  This is to minimize their stress  as much as possible and get used to separation.  The monthly fare of the full day class for June will be priced the same as the half day class.  We appreciate your kind understanding.

Important Note Regarding Joey Class

Dear Joey Parents,

Thank you for your continued support.

We would also like to thank you for your cooperation in answering the questionnaire that we sent to you last week.  We are glad to receive many insightful ideas and opinions from you.

Many of you wrote that online lessons are not appropriate for children of this age.  We quite agree with your opinions. And so we decided not to have any online courses. But we might send you a short introductory video in which children can see their teachers and classroom so that they can feel familiar with their new environment.

Currently, we are getting ready to start the Joey class once the state of emergency is lifted.  We would like to take all the possible precautions to prevent an outbreak of COVID-19 at YGK.

Here are what we take measures:

●Regular sterilization

We sterilize the toys, school supplies, equipment, classroom, etc. regularly.

●Ventilation of the classroom

We open the classroom windows regularly to ventilate.

●Air purifier

We shall operate an air purifier to secure hygiene.

●Regular health and temperature check

We check their temperatures regularly.

If their temperature is over 37.5 Celsius or 1.0 Celsius higher than their normal temperature, we shall contact their parents immediately.

In case they look dull, unwell or different from their normal condition, we may ask parents to pick up their child.

We still need to ask you to understand that close contacts are unavoidable by any means with a group of children of this age.

If your child has any unusual symptoms, we advise you to keep them home.

We might also have to ask parents to take their children home if they see any unusual symptoms, especially coughing or pink eyes.  We would like to ask parents to show us a medical certificate from a doctor that it is from asthma or hay fever and not contagious.

Also, we ask parents to wear a mask when dropping off/picking up their children, keep the social distances with each other and avoid talking with other parents or teachers at close range.

Please feel free to contact us at ygk@yokohamaymca.org if you have any concerns, questions, etc.

【Important】Small Group Meeting Policy

Dear Parents,

We appreciate all your support and understanding.

We would like to ask for your cooperation in making a reservation before you join the small group meeting.

Please note that each child can have only one time slot per day.
There is no make-up system for this, so if you are absent one day, you still have only one time slot on the following day.

To give each child enough time to speak ,we need to adjust the number of children.
In case you join the meeting without a reservation or join more than 2 times a day, we might have to ask your child to leave the room.
Please check Google Classroom for further details.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us via email.
Thank you for your continued cooperation.
